8/29/09 While back in Illinois for my sister's wedding, I took some pictures of some architecture.

This is Sanghyun my Korean teacher. This is usually a saturday afternoon staple, get on the Nogyang train and head down to Yongsan to make it to Korean class by 4:00. Class goes for an hour and a half
Each week the teacher hands out a simple two person dialogue script, we go over the vocabulary, go over the conjugations, spend some time memorizing and practicing the script, and then at the end have group conversations completely in Korean (or at least that's the goal).
I finished up summer camp last Thursday.
I know it looks like I was just standing idly by shooting photos while a kid was being picked on, but they were all having fun, I promise.
Went to Children's Park (named after "Children") and found this colorful fountain.
Downtown Seoul, on my way to the Sejong Theatre, the largest performance theatre in Korea. The statue is of Admiral Yi, a famous Korean naval commander of te 16th century.
8/04/09 Today was the last day of summer camp for fifth grade and tomorrow 6th grade begins. Due to my overpreparation I scaled back on the 6th grade class content and left more time for solidifying the material I DO use.
Here's the poetically named Class A which was the early class, from 9:00 to 10:30. Unfortunately a couple of regulars are missing because they were visiting their families. Boys aren't too keen on sitting next to girls, as you can see, and...let's call him "Kid #4" told me he doesn't like to have his picture taken so I told him I would "erase" his face, to which he made a thumbs up motion and said "OK!" so I couldn't leave that undone.
This is I-sak, also from class A, but he was late. If he had an English name it would probably be Isaac, but he doesn't so it's still I-sak. Every single day he trudged into class, about 8 minutes late, shoulders slumped, looking half-dead, but once he sat down and we started the lesson, he got to work, and had energy left over to be always making funny facial expressions and he came up with some pretty creative pictures for our class pictionary game. During one woeful entrance into class, I noticed he had a bunch of nasty looking scratches on his arm so I asked him "what happened?" and he said "bad cat".
...And this is (most of) class B. They really liked playing pictionary - "picture game" - and my own personal version of Apples to Apples. If it had been up to them we would have played only those games for the entire class period. Actually, come to think of it, that's what we did today...
Apples to apples. And finally I put my Sony PCM-D50 to use again today to record some high quality 44.1 kHz 32 bit versions of class A singing Coldplay's and Class B singing and "What a Wonderful World" (Click to play).
And this is Nokyang at night.
