I shuffled through this past year's Christmas cards
I found a picture of a man I used to know
in a very short time he went from sixty to zero
his legs turned to wheels
and his body to a shell

and I've scolded myself cause I could not feel
my way through the dark of a funeral home
tears only fall on a bottomless floor
while I grieve dry-eyed by the tomb
